Since the 16th century the Western collective imaginary has been profoundly affected by the culture of India, a culture that has not ceased to fascinate us for its diversity, its contrasts and its infinite riches. Similarly the Indian musical tradition, with its roots in ancestral religious thought has not only managed to preserve itself but has gradually been enriched by contributions from outside that have helped shape an immense and varied and highly valuable repertoire, becoming over the course of the 20th century one of the main ambassadors of "world music" in the West.

One of the most typical Indian string instruments (especially in the south) the veena has always had a special place in Indian music, even if in recent years a dearth of players with the talent to break onto the international scene has consigned it to partial obscurity in the West.
For the Carnatic musical culture it has gradually become one of the most important means of expression and now thanks to this Felmay nya Felmay reissue you can hear a wide range of melodies and pieces by renowned composers splendidly interpreted by E. GAAYATHRI. Hailing from an artistic family, GAAYATHRI has gone from child prodigy to emerge as one of the greatest veena players, charming the public with her combination of innate ability and formidable technique. An unending crystalline sound flux issues from her instrument that manages to combine virtuoso playing with the fundamentals of the musical traditions of southern India.
